Greetings,
A month has passed and another one to go (published in Finnish on the 6th of December) until the start of the trip.
Fortunately, the weather maps gradually show frosts and snowfalls also in Southern Finland, especially in Eastern Finland, where skiing should initially be successful.
The preparation and equipping continues.
Preparing for a physically long excursion is important. Especially for someone like me who does sedentary work. I have to drive a lot for work, and like at an office desk, one should be able to change positions. For example, from a sitting to a standing position, so I grunt in frustration while driving.
I like the idea of fully challenging myself in getting fit first here in civilization, because if some part of the body tears up, treatment is readily available. Which has already happened and help has been received.
I think that when you’re in good shape, it’s easier to catch up with your hiking routine and enjoy yourself from time to time. And, of course, it is also a matter of safety, that if the ski slipped, nothing worse would happen than a couple of swear words.
My own preparation has largely consisted of running, pulling, rubber band exercises and everyday activities. For me, the everyday activities has included forest management. That’s the best. When the chainsaw turns off and you take off your earmuffs, there is silence around and the crackle of a campfire during a lunch brake.
